The National Trust for Scotland is looking to appoint a suitably experienced researcher and creative writer to work with Culross Palace’s Interpretation Plan to research, storyboard and develop a visitor experience narrative. https://www.nts.org.uk/visit/places/culross.
This crucial piece of work is the first step in the delivery of the Interpretation Plan. It will deliver the story that the National Trust for Scotland wants to tell about Culross and inform the approach to storytelling at Culross Palace. It will provide the foundation on which future interpretive media will be developed.
Key outputs include:
- A storyboard for the visitor experience narrative, including a comprehensive story map showing which story will be told and where.
- Production of a visitor experience narrative and associated character stories for each room/space in the Palace, garden and outdoor spaces.
- Clearly referenced stories, providing evidence of historic and contemporary sources.
- Content for new room cards.
- Storyboards for proposed interpretive media, as identified by the Interpretation Plan, including website content, an immersive audio-visual intervention and QR codes situated around Culross Burgh.
We are looking for an experienced research and Creative Writer who:
- Has experience of historic research and writing to support the generation of stories that will be written from the perspective of a key moment in time at the Palace - 1580-1625.
- Understands how a visitor experience narrative will connect the Palace spaces together.
- Will work closely with the site staff and volunteers.
- Will respect and understand the importance of historical sources and evidence in the production of stories for communication at a heritage site.
- Will bring creativity and flair to the process.
- Will be able to research and draw on historical sources to produce creative writing.
- Understands how the stories will contribute to the experience of target audiences.
- Understands how a narrative and story content can be adapted to different media types.
- Is efficient and organised.
