About Katie Hilton: Design and Interpretation
Freelance designer and interpretation consultant specialising in museum, exhibition and cultural projects. I’m a problem-solver by heart and love collaborating with clients and communities to find engaging and innovative ways of communicating stories.
Since studying graphic design over a decade ago I’ve worked on a myriad of projects, both as a designer and interpretation consultant, regularly teaming up with curators, makers, developers, and filmmakers.
Formerly Creative Lead at production studio, Fuzzy Duck Creative, I now work as a freelancer directly with cultural organisations. In 2022, I undertook an MA in Heritage & Interpretation to better understand and support museum/exhibition projects. Working across design and interpretation gives me a unique perspective of creating experiences from the spark of an idea to final production. I’m particularly passionate about finding simple yet creative interventions, often working with clients in those gaps between yearly (and spenny!) major exhibitions to keep the visitor experience fresh all year round.
🟡 Interpretation – interpretation planning / creative producer / exhibition content / AV development
🟡 Graphic Design – print, environmental and exhibition / physical interactives / style guides / digital
🟡 Space Planning (or 2.5D design) – When you don’t need a full 3D model, but the space calls for a bit more than 2D-thinking. Creative direction / concept design and ideation
