Quentin Blake Centre for Illustration are restoring an extraordinary industrial heritage site – New River Head – to create the permanent national centre for illustration, comprising temporary exhibition galleries, a home for Quentin Blake’s archive of 40,000 works, learning spaces, public gardens, a shop and a café. We plan to open there in 2024. We are looking for an experienced researcher to undertake preliminary research on the shareholders of The New River Company. We want to know about the sources of the wealth that enabled them to invest in the company, and where their profits were spent. In particular, we want to know how the prosperity of the New River Company was connected to the transatlantic trade in enslaved people, the East India Company and other imperialist practices. This knowledge will inform our heritage interpretation plan for New River Head and future collaborations with related heritage sites.
We’re an inclusive and flexible employer, happy to hear from individuals, job-shares, freelancers and consultants. Quentin Blake Centre champions art that is dynamic and diverse; we want our team to reflect that.
In recognition of underrepresentation in our staff team, we will be offering guaranteed interviews to Deaf and disabled applicants and applicants of African, Caribbean, Central Asian, East Asian, South Asian, South East Asian and West Asian heritage whose applications demonstrate that they have the essential skills and experience listed in the Job Pack.
Please see the Job Pack for more details on the role, what we are looking for and how to apply. Our Application Guidance Notes explain how we will process your application.
