What happens when a garden interpretation project leads you into a forest of new research and new challenges with your client? And you also discover your grandmother’s ex-boyfriend.

Freelancer Hamish MacGillivray stumbled into these scenario’s working on Heritage Lottery funded display for Highdown Gardens in West Sussex. A basic editing job became a detective hunt exploring forgotten stories including: Jewish aristocrats, a female Indian scientist, and a race horse called Flair.

For this talk Hamish will discuss:

  • tips for heritage research, despite Covid 19
  • ask your views on some ethical dilemmas
