At a gala ceremony, held in Bedford, award-winning museum, historic house, visitor centre and volunteer exhibitions were announced by AHI Patron Loyd Grossman CBE. These are the most prestigious awards in the UK and Ireland for heritage interpretation - which is the way heritage sites engage their visitors. The quality of all projects made the work of the Judging Panel a difficult one and the winners represented excellence in a wide range of heritage interpretation from a volunteer-built Neolithic longhouse on Jersey to a new museum in Dunfermline.
The 2019 winners are:
Best New Museum Display – Dunfermline Museum, Fife Cultural Trust.
Best New Historic Property Display – Gloucester Cathedral.
Best Volunteer or Community Project – Neolithic Longhouse, Jersey Heritage.
Best New Visitor Centre – International Bomber Command Centre.
Best Interpretive Event – Performance of Roseliska at Portchester Castle, English Heritage and Warwick University.
Dunfermline Museum won the overall AHI Award for Excellence, representing the best new interpretation in the UK and Ireland.
Bill Bevan, Awards Chair said “Congratulations to all of the winners for their success in the 2019 Discover Heritage Awards. All of the winners demonstrated excellence in creating innovative, engaging and meaningful visitor experiences. We hope they will inspire others.”
