Could you be AHI’s next Secretary?

We’re looking for someone to join our Executive Committee as Secretary and Trustee, helping support the effective governance of the Association.

The role is open to current AHI members – and if you’re not a member yet, this could be the perfect opportunity to join AHI and become more actively involved in shaping the future of the Association.

The Secretary plays an important role in keeping the Executive Committee organised, well supported and working effectively, but this is not a day-to-day administrative or operational role.

Like all AHI Trustees, the Secretary shares collective responsibility for the effective governance and management of the Association. The role is voluntary, and the Secretary will be an AHI member.

It could be a great fit if you’re organised, reliable and collaborative, communicate clearly and have an interest in good governance.

What does the Secretary do?

Support the Executive Committee

The Secretary helps the Executive Committee of Trustees operate effectively, maintaining appropriate governance records and making sure decisions and agreed actions are properly recorded and followed up.

Help prepare meetings, agendas and minutes

Working with the Chair, the Secretary helps prepare agendas and meeting papers so that meetings are focused, productive and key matters come to the Executive Committee at the right time.

The Executive Committee meets three or four times a year, and the Secretary helps ensure meetings are properly convened and oversees the production and approval of accurate minutes.

Support the AGM

Working with the Chair and Administrator, the Secretary helps prepare the AGM agenda, ensures the meeting is quorate and supports its effective running.

Support good governance

The Secretary ensures that any constitutional changes agreed at the AGM are recorded and that the Charity Commission is informed where required.

They also support the Executive Committee in maintaining appropriate governance procedures and records, including declarations of interest and Trustee appointments, and help ensure matters requiring Executive Committee consideration are brought forward appropriately.

Work with AHI’s Operations Team

The Secretary also joins the AHI Operations Team, working collaboratively with the Chair, Vice Chair and Treasurer. The team meets infrequently and provides a space to support one another with operational discussions and decisions.
