FINSLEY GATE WHARF - NEW VISITOR ATTRACTION FULL INTERPRETATION SOLUTION
Burnley, Lancashire
Finsley Gate Wharf recently received £2.2million National Heritage Lottery Funding and European Funding to redevelop this historically important site into a regional and national visitor attraction. The Wharf once used as a carpenter yard and then maintenance yard for the locks and boats using the Leeds-Liverpool canal is embedded in Burnley’s industrial heritage.
The redevelopment of the existing Grade II listed buildings is presently under way and the site will open to the public in Spring 2021. Capital works being undertaken involve the restoration and redevelopment of the Grade II listed warehouses into a café, bar, restaurant and function room. The restoration of the existing Grade II listed Forge into a biodiversity and education centre for school visits, general public drop in, informal learning and for use by the local community including clubs. The redevelopment and restoration of Grade II listed Canal House Cottage will provide a Bed and Breakfast facility and its gardens will be used as community cottage and food garden. The remaining grounds are being remodelled to provide car parking, delivery area and outdoor learning spaces. There will be an open area in front of the warehouse redevelopment for customer seating, markets, festivals, functions and other events.
We now require a multidisciplinary Interpretation Consultancy who can bring Finsley Gate Wharf alive in the hearts and minds of local people and visitors connecting them to the past, present and future of the Wharf and Burnley Canal. We are looking for a highly creative and innovative consultancy with exceptional Interpretation planning, design, AV, build and installation experience to lead on the delivery of the full Interpretation solution for the Wharf.
The Canal River Trust is working closely with our commercial partner Finsley Gate Wharf Ltd. and the local community of Burnley to deliver this project. The successful contractor will need to work in consultation with the Finsley Gate project team.
The budget for the Interpretation element of this project is up to £45,000 including VAT and all expenses.
