Do you have a passion for the interpretation of heritage buildings and collections? Are you an experienced manager of historic records? And do you have the knowledge and ability to co-ordinate their promotion and development as a tool for contemporary mission for the Methodist Church? If so, then we would like to hear from you.
The Methodist Church is looking for an enthusiastic person with a record of achievement in heritage-related work to become the next Methodist Heritage Officer. The Methodist Church has four accredited museums, recognises more than 120 places of historic importance, and deposits records with two internationally-significant archive collections. It also maintains four flourishing online, user-generated ‘community archives’. Most importantly, we see heritage as a key way of interacting with today’s society, not just a legacy from the past.
Hundreds of volunteers and a small but dedicated number of paid staff usually care for the Church’s buildings and collections around Britain. Covid has hit the heritage sector hard and much of our focus has moved online. Could you support these dispersed teams, arrange training, respond to public enquiries and provide professional advice online and in person? This is a challenging and varied role, which we are offering as one four-day per week appointment for an exceptional candidate with a broad skill set, but which we are open to considering offering as two separate two-day per week appointments (where the staff members will have complementary but separate tasks and targets according to their specialist skills).
