Writing for Children Workshop
Inspire, excite, amuse and amaze!
From the Hobbit to Harry Potter, the Grinch to the Gruffalo, the appeal of popular fiction spans the generations.
In this one-day workshop, we’ll consider what heritage interpreters can learn from fiction writers. We’ll explore copywriting techniques that enable heritage sites and museums to reach out to visitors of all ages, such as:
- How to ‘hook’ a child’s interest, no matter how small the budget or how ‘dry’ the subject
- Writing text that children and adults want to read
- Tips for targeting different age ranges
- Encouraging inter generational conversations, being inclusive and dealing with sensitive subjects
There will be lots of writing exercises and opportunities for participants to share ideas and discuss their own writing projects and of course, to have fun!
If you attended Cathy's webinar in November 2022, the content will be similar but with more time to dwell and discuss, share ideas and ask questions. And also time for participants to try writing exercises. Cathy will also cover a bit more about diverse audiences and writing about sensitive subjects.
